Use the following ideas to help you get inspired for your upcoming September social media posts!
Seasonal Veterinary Social Media Post Topics
1. Fall Safety Reminders
Toxic Fall Foods
Graphic / Single Image: Share a clean, simple infographic with the big no-no foods for pets this season (pumpkin spice, grapes, chocolate, raisins, etc.).
Reel or TikTok: “5 Toxic Fall Foods NOT to Give Pets” → Team members can hold up food items one by one, or use stock clips, and pair it with spooky or dramatic trending audio.
Flea & Tick Prevention
Graphic / Single Image: A monthly reminder post to keep up with preventatives—bonus points if it’s a team photo holding your prevention products.
Reel or TikTok: “Prepare for Invasion” → Record your team running away from an imaginary flea/tick takeover with fun chase music.
2. First Day of Fall Pet Photos
Graphic Post (Facebook-friendly): Ask pet parents to share photos of their pets celebrating the first day of fall. These always get great engagement since people love dropping their own photos in the comments.
Reel / TikTok: Film a behind-the-scenes look at a “fall photo shoot” in your clinic—especially fun if you set up a cute, seasonal backdrop.
3. Back-to-School Season (for families with pets)
Graphic / Carousel: Share quick tips for helping pets adjust to new routines (think: separation anxiety, enrichment toys, and extra walks).
Reel / TikTok: POV: “Your dog realizes the kids are back at school all day…” → Sad pup by the door = instant relatability.
4. Fall Pet Fashion / Cozy Vibes
Photo Post: Invite owners to share pics of their pets rocking fall sweaters, scarves, or bandanas.
Reel / TikTok: “Pets trying on their fall wardrobe” → quick, funny clips of pets modeling clothes.
5. Fall Fitness for Pets
Graphic / Carousel: Share safe outdoor activity ideas for cooler weather (hiking, longer walks, fetch in the park).
Reel / TikTok: Capture a fun trail walk or other pet-friendly outdoor adventure.
6. Pumpkin Season
Graphic: Post a simple, pet-safe pumpkin treat recipe (and tie it back to your “toxic foods” reminders).
Reel / TikTok: A “Will my pet eat it?” pumpkin taste-test video—cute and funny.
7. Team/Clinic Highlights
Photo Post: Spotlight a team member with their favorite fall activity or drink order (like “Dr. Smith is ALL about pumpkin spice lattes”).
Reel / TikTok: Show off your clinic’s “fall vibes”—decorations, music, and cozy feels.
8. Seasonal Pet Health Reminders
Graphic / Carousel: Run a dental health check-in post (“Schedule your pet’s dental cleaning before the holiday rush!”).
Reel / TikTok: Do a before/after dental care slideshow with fun, upbeat audio.
9. Interactive Posts for Engagement
Polls / Questions:
“Does your pet love or hate cooler weather?”
“Pumpkin spice for humans only—agree or disagree?”
Reel / TikTok: Play a “This or That” game with fall activities (apple picking vs. pumpkin patch, leaf piles vs. cozy couch naps).
10. Story-Specific Ideas (Instagram/Facebook Stories)
Create a fun September Bingo Card with pet-owner activities (“Gave flea/tick meds,” “Took a fall photo with my dog,” “Scheduled a dental cleaning”). Encourage followers to screenshot, fill it in, and share.
Use countdown stickers leading up to National Dog Week (Sept 18–24).
11. Clinic Announcements or Promotions
Highlight seasonal fall promos (like wellness packages, dental discounts, vaccine reminders).
Share upcoming events (client appreciation days, adoption events, vaccine clinics, etc.).

Create a checklist of what typically makes a cat happy and ask your followers if they would add anything to the list.
Pet insurance education (for National Pet Insurance Month)
If your practice is big on pet insurance, use this time to talk about your favorite insurance and how people can learn more.
Share a list of the perks pet insurance offers pet owners.
Pain in animals (for Animal Pain Awareness Month)
Create a list of symptoms that are signs of pain in animals.
Share a fact about pain in animals that might shock your clients.
Answer frequently asked questions about pain in animals that your clients commonly ask you about.
Popular Social Media Holidays To Focus On
September 1: Ginger Cat Awareness Month. On Facebook, ask pet owners to share photos or videos of their ginger kitties in the comments. This post idea won't work well on Instagram since users can't share pictures or videos in the comments.
September 5: Labor Day (US & Canada). If your clinic is closed, let your followers know a few days before and the day of. To ensure your clients know about your holiday hours, don't forget to send an email to your clients, too!
September 11: Pet Memorial Day. Ask pet owners to honor their beloved pets and share their favorite memories of a pet who has passed over the rainbow bridge.
September 12: National Day of Encouragement. Ask pet owners, "What is one bit of encouragement you wish you heard as a new pet owner?"
September 18-24: National Dog Week. On a graphic have it say, "Tell us you're a dog owner without telling us you are a dog owner!"
September 28: World Rabies Day. This is an excellent opportunity to remind people of how prevalent rabies in your area and what the signs of rabies are. Be sure to direct followers to contact their vet to get their pet's rabies vaccine updated.
