Boost Your Vet Practice’s Engagement with These August Social Media Post Ideas

Updated: Aug 7

Looking for August social media post ideas to share on your veterinary practice’s social media? You’ve come to the right place!

Depending on whether you're in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere (the season and events may vary), I’ve got you covered. So, let's explore some creative ideas tailored to your location.

Northern Hemisphere (Summer)

  1. Pet Hydration Tips: Share a series on how to keep pets hydrated during the hot summer days. This could be done in graphics made in Canva or videos of your staff sharing ways to keep pets hydrated or reenacting scenes of cases where pets need to stay hydrated and how to do so.

  2. Outdoor Safety for Pets: Highlight the importance of outdoor safety, such as avoiding hot pavement, sun protection, and preventing heatstroke. This can be done via a graphic with a side-by-side thermometer comparing the temperature outside with the temperature in the car. Or you could record a video that shows the dangers of leaving pet’s in the car on a hot day. Another idea is you could show how to check the payment to see if it’s safe to walk pets outside or not.

  3. Summer Fun Activities: Share fun summer activities that pet owners can enjoy with their pets, like swimming, hiking, or picnicking. You could even share some safe treat recipes that will keep pets nice and cold. Be sure to share activities that are relevant or specific to your area and community. By doing this, you’ll gain more trust from people who see your post.

  4. Back-to-School Tips:  Provide tips on how to help pets adjust to the back-to-school routine as kids return to school. You could share crate training tips, leash training or walking tips, and other behavior modification tips to help curb unwanted behaviors. This would be a great time to collaborate with a local trainer and do a video together and have them share some tips to help pet owners during this transition.

  5. National Dog Day (August 26): Celebrate National Dog Day by featuring adorable photos of dogs from your clinic and encouraging followers to share pictures of their own dogs. This can be done on your Facebook page by asking people to share their photos in the comments. On Instagram, encourage people to send you photos for you to share in your Stories, in a Reel, or use the “Add Yours” Instagram Sticker to an Instagram story. This sticker allows people to add their own photos to a collective story that get shared to their accounts for other people to see and join the fun.

  6. Tick and Flea Prevention: Educate pet owners about the importance of tick and flea prevention during the summer months and recommend effective products. This is a great reminder to pet owners that pests can be very active during the warm months and pets still need protection.

  7. Summer Travel Tips: Share tips for traveling with pets, including safety measures, essential items to pack, and how to make travel less stressful. This would be a great time to highlight any boarding, daycare, or dog walking services you may offer!

Southern Hemisphere (Winter)

  1. Winter Pet Care: Share tips on keeping pets warm and comfortable during the colder months. Highlight the importance of proper shelter and clothing for pets. In a video, you could share some ways your team recommends keeping pets warm and safe from the cold temperatures.

  2. Indoor Activities: Suggest engaging indoor activities and games to keep pets active and entertained during winter. To drum up engagement, ask your audience what their pet’s favorite activity is during the colder months.

  3. Winter Nutrition: Discuss the importance of nutrition during winter and share healthy recipes or treats for pets. This is a great time to slip in a reminder to keep dangerous food away from pets too.

  4. Pet Health Checkups: Remind pet owners about the importance of regular health checkups, especially during the colder months when certain health issues may arise. This may be especially helpful if you have a slower schedule. For this idea, you could make it fun by doing some fun skits for a Reel or TikTok showing some instances where check-ups have been beneficial.

  5. National Cat Day (August 8): Celebrate National Cat Day by featuring pictures of all the cat patients you’ve seen recently or hosting a photo contest where people can vote on their favorite cat picture.

  6. Pet Safety in Cold Weather: Share tips on how to protect pets from cold weather hazards, such as antifreeze poisoning and frostbite. You could show what antifreeze looks like, how it poisons pets, and tell people what to do if their pet ingests it.

  7. National Dog Day (August 26): Celebrate National Dog Day with a winter twist, sharing photos of dogs in winter attire and snowy landscapes.

  8. Achy joints: The colder weather tends to make our older companions achier, so provide some tips and resources to help elderly pets feel more comfortable. Share some of the products or services you offer that can support these pets.

Universal Ideas for Both Hemispheres

  1. Vaccination Reminders: August is typically National Immunization Awareness Month, so this is a great time to remind pet owners to check the status of their pet’s vaccines, get them updated, or help pet owners prepare for any traveling needs their pet may need regarding their pet’s vaccine schedule. Check out this blog for a list of post ideas you can use to lean in on the topic of National Immunization Awareness Month.

  2. Veterinary Team Introductions: Find fun ways to introduce or re-introduce your veterinary team members with short bios and fun facts to create a personal connection with your audience. We have a list of ideas for highlighting your team here.

  3. Pet Behavior Tips: Share advice on common pet behavior issues, such as separation anxiety, barking, or litter box problems, and how to address them. Or you could share some behaviors that are misunderstood or taken to mean something else and show pet owners what those behaviors really mean.
