If you're managing social media for your veterinary practice and someone mentioned Meta Business Suite, you might be wondering: Is that really the best option? The short answer is—it depends. But more importantly, you need to know what criteria to use when choosing a scheduling tool that actually works for your clinic.
Let me walk you through the tools I recommend most, plus the framework I use to help my clients (and myself) make the right choice.

How to Choose the Right Scheduling Tool for Your Clinic
Before you pick a tool, you need to be intentional about what you're actually looking for. Not all scheduling tools are created equal, and picking the wrong one wastes time and money.
Here's what I evaluate every single time:
Budget — How much are you willing to spend? If the answer is "nothing right now," you don't need a fancy paid tool yet.
Platforms you're posting to — Are you focusing on Facebook and Instagram, or do you also need TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or YouTube? This matters way more than you'd think.
Analytics capabilities — Can you track how well your posts are performing? (Spoiler: you absolutely should be able to.)
Ease of use — Are you okay with a learning curve, or do you need something intuitive right out of the gate?
Mobile vs. desktop — Will you be scheduling on the go, or mostly from your office?
How much depth you need — Some tools give you basic insights; others let you drill down into granular data.
The last one is critical: You need to track your analytics. I cannot stress this enough. Without data, you can't prove ROI to your practice owner or manager. You're just hoping social media is working. And at the end of the day, we're running a business—we need to know the results.
The Starter Tools (Free, But Limited)

Meta Business Suite
Meta Business Suite is free and already built into your Facebook page. It's the easiest tool to access if you're just starting out.
The good:
Zero cost
You already have access to it
Once you learn it, you can schedule to Facebook and Instagram
The catch:
Significant learning curve upfront
It's glitchy. Like, really glitchy. I've had scheduled posts just disappear. Others in my Facebook group report the same issue.
You can only schedule to Facebook and Instagram (Meta owns both, so that's all they allow)
Analytics exist, but are buried and hard to find
Use it on a desktop; the mobile app is unreliable (in my experience)
My take: Great for getting your feet wet, but plan to graduate from this pretty quickly.

Canva Pro's Content Planner
Canva Pro has a built-in content planner feature (paid feature only—not available on the free plan). Since you're probably already using Canva to design posts, scheduling directly from there seems convenient.
The catch: Once you schedule your posts, you cannot track their performance.
For me, this is a dealbreaker. I want to know which posts drive results for the clinic, and Canva doesn't give you that visibility.
My take: Great for design workflow, but don't rely on it as your main scheduling tool if analytics matter to you (and they should).
The Upgrade Tools (Free + Paid Plans)
When you're ready to graduate, these are the next tier—and they're significantly more robust.

Later and Plann (Especially Instagram-Focused)
Both Later and Plann are visually appealing, drag-and-drop scheduling tools built with Instagram in mind.
The good:
Beautiful, intuitive interfaces
Drag-and-drop functionality
They support multiple platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google Business Profile, YouTube
Both have mobile apps
Free and paid options available
The difference between them:
The catch:
Analytics are locked behind the paid plan
They have a lot of features, and the learning curve can feel steep
If Instagram isn't your focus, these might be overkill
My take: Excellent tools, but if you want analytics without paying premium prices, keep reading.
My Top Recommendation: Metricool

Here's the tool I actually use for my business: Metricool.
Why I love it:
The free plan is genuinely robust. You get:
Multi-platform scheduling (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business Profile)
Beautiful analytics right out of the box
Suggestions for the best times to post based on your audience
Mobile app that actually works
Easy-to-use interface with minimal learning curve
If you want deeper analytics features and higher-level access, the paid plan is affordable—it won't break the bank.
The bonus feature I love: You can connect your website to Metricool and see the full journey. How many people clicked from your social posts to your appointment page? Which posts drove the most traffic? Then you can cross-reference with your practice management system to see whether those clicks resulted in actual appointments.
This is the quick-and-dirty way to prove social media ROI without overwhelming yourself with ten different dashboards.
My take: If you want one tool that scales with your clinic, Metricool is where I'd start first. Seriously.

Quick Decision Guide
Want to start immediately with almost no learning curve? → Meta Business Suite or Metricool
Have an Instagram-heavy strategy and like visual planning? → Later
Have an Instagram-heavy strategy and prefer strategic planning? → Plann
Want the most features and don't mind paying for analytics? → Later or Plann (premium)
Want a budget-friendly option that grows with your clinic? → Metricool
The Bottom Line
The "best" scheduling tool is the one that:
Fits your budget
Works with the platforms you actually use
Gives you the analytics you need to prove results
Doesn't create more confusion than it solves
Start with what you have (Meta Business Suite is free), but don't stay there if it's frustrating you. Move up to something more reliable, like Metricool, when you're ready.
And please—track your analytics. Your practice owner needs to see that your social media efforts are working. You need to know it too.
